Fun in Monochrome!

As you may or may not know, I absolutely adore black & white images. It takes me back to when I first fell in love with photography in the darkroom in highschool. I recently had the fortune to be able to test drive the Leica M Monochrom camera, a digital camera that records only luminance values and absolutely zero color data. Can I tell you how positively geeked out I was when I even found out this camera existed?! I have always thought it’d be a BLAST to photograph an entire black & white wedding and this would be the perfect camera to do it with. The problem was finding a couple who would let me photograph their entire wedding in black & white! I can’t say I blame anyone. Going 100% zero color is extreme, for sure. So I settled for the next best thing; a colleague who would let me tag along to a wedding they were shooting, so I could shoot for FUN in b&w! Enter Lisa Boggs Photography to save the day! Lisa is another D.C. area photog who does beautiful work I really respect and who also happens to have amazingly fun, awesome clients (Melanie & Gavin) who were totally on board with letting me hijack some of their day to fulfill my inner nerd. I can’t possibly thank them enough for indulging me!

So here it is! Melanie & Gavin’s adorable courthouse wedding in Annapolis and sweet backyard celebration (complete with a stop by Gavin’s antique car for some sweet burnouts). So much fun!

Part of the charm of the Monochrom camera is that it’s a rangefinder…so what you see in the viewfinder isn’t 100% what you get. Coupled with this particular, super wide lens I was using, I had no clue what I was getting (In the viewfinder I could only see from the curb to the roofline). I love this sweeping effect!

Kat & Geoff: George Washington Masonic National Memorial

When Courtney from A Sweet Soiree came to me saying she had the perfect clients for us, I was super excited. When I actually met Kat and Geoff,  I was jumping for joy because she was right! Kat and Geoff started talking about all their plans for having one massive, kick butt party that included amazing details, their mastiffs (named Amstel & Miller, ha!), amazing friends and family, a party bus (complete with a “dancing” pole, LOL), and a ceremony that processed to the Game of Thrones intro theme music into the epic Masonic auditorium and had my photo imagination drooling.

Recently, I was making some new sample albums for our upcoming exhibiton at A Capital Bridal Affair and I had to share the album I made of their wedding. Enjoy!

An Annapolis Engagement

Kristen & Jon met us at the new (to DC!) bridal show The Wedding Salon a while back.  At the time they were planning a fantastic New Zealand wedding but wanted to celebrate their engagement in their current hometown of Annapolis.  Of course, everyone loves Annapolis.  The quaint, old streets, the adorable little houses, the waterfront, who wouldn’t be crazy about it?!

The day ended up being absolutely perfect to take a stroll around town and create some great memories of their engagement to share with their friends and family.  Even Ruby, their adorable pup, came along for some fun!

Puppy kisses are the best!  Sluuuurp!

Miss Ruby was a bit rambunctious; we were at her favorite park, afterall.
